Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) Scheme News - 1st February 2010What great news! The Government has today published a consultation document relating to an incredibly attractive incentive scheme aimed at promoting the use of renwable heating products - namely:- Air Source Heat Pumps & Systems, Ground Source Heat Pump Systems & Biomass (woodchip and wood pellet) Boilers.
The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme is to be adminstered by OFGEM and is due to be fully in place by April 2011. The scheme will basically mean that consumers who have Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) & Ground Source Heat Pump (GSHP) systems installed by Microgenration Certification Scheme (MCA) Approved Installers will receive cash payments of around 7.5 pence per kW/h used to run the equipment for a period of between 18 - 23 years, depending on the exact heat pump system installed. These payments could easily add up to between £1000-£2000 per year.
The framework of the RHI scheme has been in place for some time and , following consulation (The consultation period for the Renewable Heat Incentive scheme ends on 26th April 2010), the scheme will be finalised and set to work in April 2011.
This scheme is set to revolutionise residential heat pump use, bringing heat pumps to the forefront of home heating where they belong.
